Have you seen the strawberry hack going around the internet saying you only need a straw to take off the stem?

One night I was at home {I'm a mom. Truth: most nights I'm at home.} and decided that I was tired of "wondering" whether or not this would work.  I would test the claim.  Be careful staying up late.. sometimes your mind goes crazy and you can't think straight and the things you begin to think about testing.. fortunately this test only included a berry and a straw.

I grabbed my berries.  Oooh!

That straw there.. umm, confession.  I love Starbucks straws. There, I said it.  I may or may not take more than I need.. may or may not.

Anyhow, grab and rinse your strawberry.  Find your favorite "disposable" straw.  If you try to use a reusable thick plastic, or glass, straw it will be too thick to slice through the fruit.  I decided upon a Starbucks straw because they're sturdy.

Oh my gosh, it's in!  You can push straight through the bottom of the strawberry, or twist the straw a little if there is any resistance.  I didn't really believe that it would push through my beautiful red berry.

The straw is all the way in there.

You know, it's FUNNY that this hack involves a STRAW to de-stem the STRAWberry.. as if they were created for each other.  And one day, someone probably sat around and all of a sudden put two and two together and gave this a go.  Straw, check.  Strawberry, check.  BOOM!

Straight genius.

The center of the strawberry is hollow, so once you push in from the bottom, there's a gap in the middle until you push up to the top.

Push a little further, and *POP*.  The green stem pops off!  If you push a little off-center, then pull your straw back down and angle it a little until the stem comes off entirely.  It's really fun.

Kids can totally help you in the kitchen with this project.  They'll love it too, and it will a.) make them feel important, b.) give them purpose, c.) they can do it unsupervised, d.) get them out of your hair. What?  Just kidding..

Slice, dice, add banana, ice cream, a waffle cone, and whipped cream.

I mean, you don't have to, but..
