My daughter, TinyBaker, has a children's book titled Max and Mo Go Apple Picking, which at the end of the story provides a recipe for natural homemade applesauce. She has been requesting that we make it for some time now, and so we did.
TinyBaker is 4 and a half years old, so it's the perfect recipe to make together. We always have so much fun cooking, baking, and just getting our hands dirty in the kitchen. {and then wash them right away, because we also like to have clean, unsticky fingers!}
I peeled the apples: a mix of gala and granny smith.
Our recipe called for 4 lbs., but I just eyeballed it. <---This means I peeled and cored a bunch. It was a very scientific process.

She cut them into pieces.
You're doing a great job, baby! Keep it up, and keep your fingers back!
I love you too! See how easy it is to include our children in the kitchen! Just take a little time for prep and the fun memories you make will last a lifetime!
Put the apples in the pot.
Clean those sticky fingers, per her request!
Add water to the pot and bring to a boil. {I boiled until fork tender.. but I didn't measure the water and def. had a lot.}
Apple mash, anyone?
Apple water.. Agua de manzana? I meant to Google what to do with this leftover liquid, but alas, it sat in my fridge and I ended up pouring it down the drain.
If you use the leftover liquid, please leave a comment! I'd love to put it in something the next time we make applesauce.
It's time to taste our yummy creation!
Mmm, sweet wholesome success! I can't believe how easy it was! Golly, had I known how simple it was to make this stuff when TinyBaker was actually tiny and a baby, sheesh, we could've saved on baby food. BUT, I was a new mom and inexperienced. Maybe, next time? Maybe, next baby?
If only I had one of those Rachel Ray Garbage Bowls?!
I have seriously wanted one of those bowls for a long time..
I also LOVE and wish I had a set of these ZAK bowls. I think they're so pretty and fun!

I'm anxious to try this again and add cinnamon, or maybe some red hot candies and make it red! You could also add any kind of berry. Then, I want to use it in some low-fat baking. There are so many possibilities and uses!
After all the work is done, it's cleanup time, and look who was so excited to help me!
