Bring on the Christmas Season 2013

I'm never prepared, I wait until the last minute, I shop on Christmas Eve {usually} but I still never fail to promote the Christmas season with such enthusiasm you'd think I'd have it together.

Every year I kind of stay on top of one thing while every thing else falls apart.

For example, today is Thanksgiving, and I managed to boil the potatoes and make 15 lbs worth of mashed potatoes plus get my family ready for dinner ON TIME!  Two years ago the potatoes were still boiling when it was time to leave for our family's house.

This Christmas I'd love to have an Elf on a Shelf.. but I think that because I started thinking about the idea this year, I won't really be able to do it until next year.  I need a little prep.. and I might have to make my own little elf.

Would you like a DIY Elf on the Shelf?  Sounds like a post-worthy craft.  ;)

Christmas is a time of jingle bells, carols, cookie decorating, gingerbread, ice skating, lights lights lights, cozy fires in the fireplace, hot chocolate, late night coffee, red cups at Starbucks, fudge, fruit cake, gatherings with friends.. and most importantly for my young family, traditions.  My daughter is 4 1/2, and she has the spirit of Christmas in her soul and a twinkle in her eyes.  Every day is magic with her, and I want to make sure she grows up to remember all the love and special times we made together.

Some of our family we don't see but once a year, even though we live local.  So I really stress the importance of attending that dinner, or going to the party.  I no longer feel like bailing out of an invite, because if you decline, you won't get invited again.

Today, our San Diego family was together, but we remember our Oregon and Washington relatives, and Las Vegas/North Dakota/Colorado friends.  I have just as much love for them, even though we miss most everything.  I love you all, with all my heart.  I think of you every day!!

So now, it is time to "Bring on the Christmas".  Tomorrow, we should get down our decorations, hang the lights, and sing Christmas carols all day.  I don't know if that will happen, but that's what we should do.

..and let's get our Advent Calendar/Countdown to Christmas Calendars prepared!!!  My mom had one from Avon when I was growing up.  We moved the little mouse from day to day.  It's actually the same one hanging in the kitchen in the movie Four Christmases!

Last year, TinyBaker's Godmother made her an Advent Calendar out of matchboxes and magnets.. it was so neat.. you can see it here:: Matchbox Advent Countdown to Christmas Calendar
