Baby Tomato Candy - The PERFECT food gift for Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery Patients.. and EVERYONE for that Matter!!
By this time I think I'm allowed to tell everyone that my mom had weight loss surgery. It's awesome. She is so much happier, living.. actually LIVING and enjoying her days, doing the things she loves and feeling good in her own skin. These days we all probably know at least one person who has had weight loss surgery, otherwise know of one. I personally know 3 people {and a few more since I've been to support group meetings with my mom} and know of 1 other person.

What happens after you have surgery is that the foods you ate before react differently in your body. Sugar can cause what is called "dump syndrome" making you feel sick to your stomach for a good while after you eat it, usually around 30-40 minutes {in our experience}. Every body is different, unique, and processes sugar differently. The only way to know if you will suffer the symptoms is by testing the machine; your body.
I got this Martha Stewart twine from Target or Michaels!
What starts off as one nibble, can quickly turn sour fast. "One nibble, I feel okay." Let's try two nibbles, and then a bite, two bites, three bites, four.. "ughhh, I don't feel so good!" We all test our limits.
I never like to be the sabotage friend and deter someone from their lifestyle plan.. but, on a birthday, what are you expected to do? Can we even mention what are you supposed to do for someone who has had weight loss surgery? It's a classic to have a birthday cake with pretty decorations and candles to make wishes and blow out. But, times are changing and we needed an innovative idea, something a little more clever than that!
I did a quick Google search that actually yielded no useful results. "best food present for weight loss surgery patients". Food should still be enjoyable, even after surgery! My daughter even loved these baby tomato candies! They're so fun to make and eat!
OKAY, I have discovered one of the most awesome-EST FOOD/FOODIE presents EVER! No joke..

It's like making candy.. with a baby!
Start with a rectangular piece of parchment
Place a baby tomato in the center and roll tightly. DON'T SQUEEZE!
Then carefully hold the wrapped tomato in place and twist one end, then the other.
Decorate the "candy" with colored twine, string, or even ribbon.
These little tomatoes look like baby watermelons!
There you go. Another great idea to add to your collection. These aren't ONLY for weight loss surgery patients. These are also perfect for everyone, kids included!
