This is sort of an Update to The Beekman 1802 Mercantile {UN{Intentional Misleading Information on BeckyCharms.com.
So, you see that? Look really close and you just might catch it. You can't miss it with the yellow arrows pointing to it! Yes, the Beeks have added.. ADDED the word "artisinal" to their description. In case you're missing something here, and feeling like a lost puppy dog in the middle of the streets of Shanghai, a few months ago I posted an entire article explaining an issue.. issues I had with the Fabulous Beekman Boys claiming that "ALL" their "Beekman 1802 goods" are hand-crafted near Sharon Springs, NY, when I have 2 items conflicting with their claims.
Here is a before screenshot:
Okay, okay.. That's a little step in the right direction. I give credit where credit's due.
But, wait! They've.. or whomever manages/edits the Beekman 1802 website/mercantile inserted "artisinal". I'm not sure that's a word. I never like to assume, but for the sake of this post, I'm going to.. I will {make that ass out of 'u' and 'me'} and go out on a limb and say that they meant "artisanal". That might be a bit
I tend to say "I'm just saying" right about now. Now, to reference the original post, I'm still not on any high horse. If you're trying to be literal, that won't work here. I'm really just
Let's take a deeper look, though.. just real quick.
This is the next question. What do the Beekman Boys consider "artisinal" {artisanal}? Here's what happens when you search "artisinal" on their online Mercantile:
Uh Oh! Nothing matches! Are we surprised? I want to be, but.. Let's recap. Beekman 1802, "All" goods made near Sharon Springs NY, canvas tote made in China, Polka Spot shirt made in Nicaragua, "All" artisinal goods, "Sorry, we could not find any matches for artisinal". Let's stop there for a moment.
Even though I'm playing on grammar and semantics here, let's search for "artisanal".
Super! "Artisanal" DOES produce some search results. Only five. According to "The Fabulous Beekman Boys", all of their "artisinal" goods are made somewhere in the vicinity of somewhere near Sharon Springs, NY. But, none of their items are "artisinal". And if all of their "artisanal" goods are produced in Sharon Springs, NY, that means that only 5 different products fit the bill.
At least I was able to figure it out myself. Did you keep up?
As a consumer and Rookie Business Owner, I realize the importance of and appreciate honest, transparent business practices. It is not an oxymoron. Sneaky marketing? No thanks. Creative wording and writing takes talent. Lies are blatant falsities, and consumers see right through them.
- An apology is still in order, for false advertising and trickery, and *ahem* personal attacks. {What about the other people that bought these same products under the misconceived notion that they were supporting U.S. made?}
- Typo correction from "artisinal" to "artisanal".
- Clarification on which items are included in "artisanal". The word should be included in their item description, and possibly an entire category for quick reference.
Oh, yeah.. I'm just saying. Be informed, and do research.
